About the Initiative

In Spring 2019 the Provost’s office initiated a series of taskforces to focus on the development of transdisciplinary academic programming. Each taskforce was charged with exploring ways MSU could fulfill its land-grant mission of teaching, research, and service through comprehensive transdisciplinary programs in their target area of emphasis.

The Health Science Task Force, Chaired by Dr. David Buys, proposed a series of recommendations across six domains, including: 1. Certificate programs, 2. Graduate programs, 3. Undergraduate programs, 4. Rural Health Care Outreach, 5. Clinic-based Learning Experiences, and 6. the creation of a Health Science focused school/unit/center. The complete report can be found here: https://www.provost.msstate.edu/sites/www.provost.msstate.edu/files/2021-06/Health_Science_Task_Force_Final_Report.pdf.

In response to the recommendations made by the report, a Health Science Administrative Working Group was put together, led by Dr. Dan Gadke, with the charge of bring these recommendations to fruition.  The working Group members broadly encompass physiological, behavioral, and mental health sciences, and provide a wealth of knowledge and experience across the various Health Science disciplines at MSU.
